The main focus of The Center for Competency Development is to understand the unique needs of local employers and help fill them with ethical, hardworking, and positive employees with validated competencies.

The Center provides its unique competency solutions for local employers:

A customized training program that delivers prospective employees with basic competencies for a 30-day trial. If both the employer and employee believe there is a good match, the employer hires the employee full-time.
As our economy continues to evolve faster than ever before, the Center is committed to providing employers with quickly developed solutions to their competency needs. We provide ongoing support and opportunities for learning in order to create a workforce that is skilled, effective, and committed to producing customer-valued products.

RECENT OFFERINGS

Leadership Workshops: Four-day, interactive workshops presented by a qualified presenter. Topics covered include leadership styles, emotional intelligence, vision/mission/values, and communication.
Problem Solving Workshop: Day long workshop conducted by Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center. Follow up to apply the learned skills and reporting back to the group of the value that was created.
Working As A Team Workshop: This two-hour workshop will include hands-on activities, guided discussions, lecture-style presentations, worksheets, and actions participants can take following the workshop to continue to learn and grow in their teamwork.
SolidWorks Drafting: Employees can learn key skills and competencies through online modules and hands-on learning at the Alpena High School Mechatronics Lab.
