EMPLOYERS

The main focus of The Center for Competency Development is to understand the unique needs of local employers and help fill them with ethical, hardworking, and positive employees with validated competencies.

The Center provides its unique competency solutions for local employers:

  1. A customized training program that delivers prospective employees with basic competencies for a 30-day trial. If both the employer and employee believe there is a good match, the employer hires the employee full-time.
  2. As our economy continues to evolve faster than ever before, the Center is committed to providing employers with quickly developed solutions to their competency needs. We provide ongoing support and opportunities for learning in order to create a workforce that is skilled, effective, and committed to producing customer-valued products.

RECENT OFFERINGS

  • Sales training: Sales Concepts representatives instructed three virtual courses on sales – prospecting, overcoming objections, and closing the sale.
  • Welding symbols: Alpena Community College welding instructor taught this course which took a deep dive into welding symbols.
  • On the Job, Under the Influence: A guest presenter, internal presenters and a representative from The Michigan State Police taught attendees how to recognize if someone is under the influence while at work, and what to do about it.
  • Heat Treat Tool Steels and Alloys: The Center partnered with Alro Steel on this workshop.
  • Conveyor Tech for Salespeople: Taught by an internal instructor, this course offered valuable information about conveyor products for salespeople to utilize to increase their knowledge.
  • 3D Modeling with SolidWorks: An introductory course and a best practices course were offered in partnership with Alpena Community College.
  • Pneumatics: Taught by an internal instructor, this course shared best practices and knowledge about the use of pneumatics in the material handling industry.
